A LETTER TO GOD
1. Where did Lencho live?
Ans. Lencho lived in the only house, situated on the
top of a low hill.

Ans. He (Lencho) hoped for a good harvest from the
field of ripe com with the flowers.
3. What did he say about the raindrops?
Ans. Lencho said that the raindrops were big drops and
the small drops of new coins.
4. How did the rain change?
Ans. The rain
changed into very large hailstones with the strong wind.
5.What happened to Lencho's corn fields?
Ans. As (when) the strong wind blew and very large
hailstones began to fall, Loncho's corm
field was covered with rain and hailstones and the
field appeared white as if covered with salt.
6.Who did Lencho have faith in?
Ans. Lencho had great faith in God.
7. Who did he write a letter to?
Ans. He (Lencho) wrote a letter to God.
8.Who read the letter?
Ans. The postman and then postmaster read Lenchos’s
letter
9.What did the postmaster do?
Ans. The postmaster didn't want to shake Lencho's
faith towards God. He decided to send some money to Lencho. He collected money
from his junior employees and several of his friends besides a part of his
salary. Then he sent money in an envelope to Lencho.
10. Was Lencho surprised to find a letter for him with
money in it?
Ans. No, Lencho was not surprised at all to find a
letter for him with money in it.
11. What was Lencho's reaction after getting the
letter?
Aus. After getting the letter, Lencho became angry as
the money he had asked for was only a bit more than half. So in his next letter
he appealed (requested) to God to send him the rest money not through the mail
as the post office employees were a bunch of crooks.

Ans. Throughout the morning Lencho kept on looking at
the sky towards the north-east for
much needed rainfall to get a good harvest.

Ans. After the storm, the field of corn of Lencho's
looked white, as if covered with salt.
(iii) Why did Lencho say the raindrops were like 'new
coins'?
Ans. Lencho felt the raindrops on his body. He
exclaimed/got surprised to experience the big raindrops like new coins of ten
cent pieces and the little raindrops as five-cent pieces.
(iv) Why did Lencho prefer locusts to the storm?
Ans. The hailstones had completely destroyed Lencho's
ripe corn field. Lencho thought
locusts would have left some corn untouched instead.
(v) Did Lencho try to find out who had sent the money
to him? Why/Why not?
Ans. No, Lencho did not try to find out who had sent
the money to him. Because he had confidence in God and was sure that God would
certainly send him the money.
(vi) What would be the reaction of the post office
employees when they read the second letter?
Ans. When the post office employees read the second
letter, the postmaster showed his curiosity (interest) to read the letter as
what Lencho had written. Lencho had begged (requested) God not to send rest of
the money through the post office employees as they were a bunch of crooks.

diligent (hard-working) as an ox who worked hard in his field.

Ans. The postmaster was a fat and friendly person. He
was kind and sympathetic.
(iv) Why did the postmaster send money to Lencho?
Ans. The postmaster sent money to Lencho to
consolidate his faith on God.
(v) What does the expression 'an act of charity' mean?
Ans. The expression "an act of charity” means the
act of kindness which the postmaster showed to Lencho by arranging money.
